Challenges Associated with the Development and Implementation of Privatization of Air Traffic Control in the United States

Abstract

This study focuses on establishing some of the challenges associated with the development and implementation of the proposal to privatize Air Traffic Control in the USA. The study used secondary sources of information such as the FAA, Department of Defense, past studies, and library literature to examine the concept of air traffic control and its the potential effects of its privatization in the United States of America. From the empirical literature, it was evident that several studies have been conducted on the issue, with results indicating that the privatization of the ATC would have adverse effects on the smaller airports, taxes, legal and policy issues, as well as the NextGen, and safety jurisdiction of the aviation industry in US. The findings of the literature review casts doubts about the feasibility of the privatization of air traffic control. Nevertheless, the study showed that there are a number of benefits of privatizing Air Traffic Control systems across the US.
